Look! We have been outside. The pond was frozen but there were still creatures to be found in their habitats...and some beautiful snowdrops.

Please save some Junk!
We are going to make our own Anglo-Saxon buildings and would love some cardboard junk (no plastic please). Pet food boxes are an ideal size, plus anything else that you think we might be able to use. See the picture for inspiration!

We're doing some bird watching at the moment.

The RSPB
have a webpage to help us with this
rspb.co.uk/schoolswatch
Check it out!

Today we saw a magpie and we think it was two or three Blue Tits in the conservation area.
We think this large black bird in the tree is a Crow. Or perhaps it is a Blackbird?

Class equipment!

Please would you make sure your child comes to class equipped with a pencil case. Pencil cases should go home and be returned to school each day. We have a no Biro and felt tips rule at Great Horwood. Handwriting pens should be roller ball, fibre tip or similar.
Each pencil case should include:
Black pen - for initial writing

Blue pen - for editing
Pencil, sharpener and rubber
Ruler (with millimeters)
Glue stick
Scissors
Highlighter pen
White board pen

We hope you like the Christmas cards we made last term!

Not only is it that most wonderful time of the year but it's a muddy time of the year!

You'll see on the newsletter this week that we are adopting a 'no mud' approach to the upstairs classrooms! It's been much better in the last few days, so thank you for providing outdoor shoes for your children to change in to and out of. Please don't go out and buy expensive trainers - just an old pair is sufficient and we hope will keep their school shoes smart and shiny!

We are really enjoying our small group guided reading sessions too. We would like to provide cushions for the children to sit on while they are enjoying their books. If you have any old cushions or small beanbags that you are about to recycle(!) please do send them our way.
We will make great use of them. Thank you.

Next half term!

Welcome back after the half term break. I hope everyone had a restful half term?
We have a really exciting few weeks of work ahead. Our 'mummy's' are coming on a treat! Watch this space.

We'll continue with PE outdoors, thus please ensure all kits include a tracksuit and trainers. If the children wish to change into an old pair of trainers at break and lunchtime this is fine - a great idea in fact! The trainers can be kept under their coat space in our cloakroom.

Here's to a half term of exciting learning - did you know there are only some eight weeks to go until a special bearded visitor, called Nicholas, descends our chimneys....?

Learning outdoors!

And this week...!
Thank you for helping your children with their homework this week. We have had some amazing pyramids made from Lego and other interesting materials.
Please remember the spellings should be practiced by putting them in sentences and we will be learning the techniques of spelling - not just the hardest words possible
(I promise
antidisestablishmentarianism
 won't be on the list!).

Please provide a pair of wellie boots for your child to keep in school. We are doing a lot of outdoor learning. Now that it is getting muddy the children will need to change their shoes to go out to play. Please provide an old pair of trainers, to be - likewise - kept in school.

Maple class. Welcome to page 1!

I am delighted to be the class teacher for Maple Class this year. In my role as the deputy headteacher I spend just over a day out of the classroom. During this time Mrs Taylor, our new and very experienced HLTA, covers as teacher for the class.

We have started our exciting topic on ANCIENT EGYPT. Your children should bring home their Home Learning Journal today. Please ensure it comes back into school by Wednesday of the following week.
The Journal will include the weekly spellings, a maths task, log-in details for Education City and the current Homework Grid.
The majority of the children in our class are now 'free readers'. Please do, however, hear them read at least three times a week and share books with them. We visit the library once a week and the children are welcome to enjoy these books at home (they should come back into school each day, please). We read lots and lots in school!

Before enjoying our lunch at end the end of the school day we say a prayer of thanks to God. Should your children have suggestions for items of prayer and thanks it would be lovely to include these.
